New Year’s Resolutions to Make You Feel Good by Doing Good in 2023

With the end of the year approaching, New Year’s resolutions will be a topic of thought for most. Although everyone is looking forward to a fresh start in the upcoming new year, it is important to remember why we make goals in the first place, and the lasting effect they can have on us.

It is no secret that doing good will make you feel good. If you’re looking for a new approach at resolutions this year, we’ve compiled a list of resolutions that will make you feel good by helping others, connect you to your community, or bring you closer to the things that really matter to you.

Explore and Shop Locally

The Fox Cities has an abundance of trendy local shops, beautiful scenery, attractions, and historic places to visit. Make it a goal this upcoming year to see more of what your community has to offer and expand your knowledge of where you live, work, and play.

Check our some of our staff’s must-visit spots in the Fox Cities:

  • High Cliff State Park is situated in Sherwood on Lake Winnebago and offers great hiking, camping, biking, and water sport opportunities year-round for the whole family.
  • Acoca Coffee brews fresh coffee in house, with a tasty menu of sandwiches, bowls, fancy toast, waffles, and more!
  • The History Museum at the Castle displays hands on exhibits, award winning local history, and its interactive Harry Houdini illusion exhibit.
  • The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center (PAC) is a premier venue for live performing arts, and home of the Broadway Across America – Fox Cities series.

Strengthen Social Ties

Reach out to your friends and family and make strengthening your relationships a priority! Lack of, or poor social relationships, are known to be linked to a large variety of health issues. Having regular social interaction can harvest a positive impact on your mental and physical health. Learn more about the importance of social interactions on our blog.

This act of generosity is known to reduce depression and increase brain functionality – all while doing good by your community. If you are looking for your next volunteer opportunity, be sure to check out the United Way Fox Cities Kimberly-Clark Diaper Bank, located at our Kensington Production Facility. There is no greater feeling then knowing that you are helping keep local babies in low-income families happy, healthy, and dry.

Practice Random Acts of Kindness

Performing regular random act of kindness can promote feelings of satisfaction and well-being, and can even reduce stress! According to Mayo Clinic, being kind boosts serotonin and dopamine, which are neurotransmitters in the brain that cause the pleasure/reward centers in your brain to light up. This is proof that practicing kindness benefits others and you – a total win/win if you ask us.

Whether you are donating physical goods, your time and talent by serving on a Board of Directors, or money to organizations you care about, nothing can beat the feeling of being part of why something good happens in your community. Donations come in all shapes and sizes, so even if you don’t have the means to make financial donations, there are ways to donate that don’t cost you anything! For example, you can donate to your favorite nonprofit through everyday purchase made on Amazon through AmazonSmile, at no additional cost to you. Learn more about this easy way to give on our blog.

No matter what “feel good” resolution you choose this year, we hope you celebrate all milestones; big or small. Happy New Year from VPI!
