Members of VPI, Inc. embarked on an outing to the studios of WLUK-Fox TV. The excursion, a part of the organization’s Community Inclusion initiative, offered participants a glimpse into the inner workings of one of Green Bay’s television stations.
Led by Kimberly Krejcarek from WLUK-Fox TV, the VPI members went on a comprehensive tour of the studio and sets of “Good Day Wisconsin,” the daily newscasts, and the flavorful ambiance of “Cooking with Amy.”
One of the highlights was witnessing the behind-the-scenes magic of television production. Members observed Amy Hanten, the host of “Cooking with Amy,” as she recorded promotional videos for her culinary show. Adding to the excitement, Meteorologist Phil DeCastro recorded teasers for the next day’s broadcast of “Good Day Wisconsin.” Members watched as DeCastro delivered weather updates.
A memorable moment for the VPI members was their opportunity to step in front of a green screen. With guidance from DeCastro, each participant experienced the thrill of presenting the weather forecast, seeing themselves projected onto the screen as if they were live on air.
Krejcarek also provided the group with their own moment of stardom, as she recorded the group for a video welcoming viewers back from commercial break on a future Good Day Wisconsin broadcast.
The visit culminated in a warm welcome from on-air personality Rachel Manek, who recognized one of the members.
As the VPI, Inc. continues its mission of promoting social and educational opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, outings like these serve as invaluable experiences, fostering growth, confidence, and camaraderie among participants.
