Community Employment Mentor


A Community Employment Mentor will provide job coaching, skill instruction and employment related support to individuals with employment barriers in the community and at VPI locations. The purpose of the Community Employment Mentor is to assist individuals in achieving independence and create successful employment outcomes through utilizing various levels of intervention and prompting techniques with a focus on promoting respect, dignity and inclusion. The Community Employment Mentor communicates relevant issues and overall progress to the Community-Based Service Manager and the Workforce Solutions team.


  • High school diploma completed or in progress
  • Additional course work in human services or related field – preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities- preferred
  • Demonstrate common sense, judgment, flexibility, written and oral communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays on an as-needed basis


  • Providing hands-on Skill-Instruction of work tasks as well as observing and reporting on program participant’s performance. Assisting with ensuring that work site activities remain consistent with the participant’s rehabilitation program and the employer’s needs.
  • Preparation and Submission of accurate and timely case notes and documentation.
  • Attending staffing meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Professionally communicate with employers, work site supervisors/coworkers, and VPI staff to facilitate the best possibly employment outcomes
  • Assist in training employment program participants in the areas of work skills as well as social, personal and community inclusion.
  • Assist in conducting special training programs, classes, and activities to broaden the participant’s employment skills and career awareness.
  • Providing skill instruction/job coaching and assistance to other community support program as needed

Base pay starting at $15/hour; daytime, afternoon, evening and weekend availability needed

Work performed is generally within the sedentary light as defined by the United States Department of Labor.
