OVERVIEW: This position is about energy, health, and fun. You will have the opportunity to develop and facilitate a life-changing Health and Wellness program to impact people of all abilities and backgrounds across VPI’s Community Programs.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, modify, adapt, and implement health and wellness curriculums and activities for these specific populations: individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, traumatic brain injuries; individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorders
  • Create and maintain a monthly calendar of health and wellness programs across VPI programs
  • Plan and facilitate regularly scheduled community outings related to health and wellness
  • Plan and facilitate regularly scheduled group activities related to health and wellness
  • Build community partnerships for health and wellness to create sustainability in the initiative long-term
  • Train VPI staff on how to provide health and wellness programming to these specific population, using learnings from the initiative
  • Attend and participate in AmeriCorps program trainings on a variety of topics, including program orientation all-member team training and networking opportunities, Public Health AmeriCorps CDC Train virtual training series, community service projects, etc. These trainings occur through a combination virtual and in-person formats.
  • Complete AmeriCorps paperwork, such as monthly reports, feedback surveys, etc.
  • Community outreach around health and wellness topics and objectives
  • Deliver community based programing around health and wellness topics and objectives

 QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

  • Be 18 years or older at the beginning of their service
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • S Citizen, U.S National, or Lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • Member Term of Service: The Member’s service term will start on 9/1/2023 and end on 8/31/2024. There’s flexibility with the position start date, however the position must start within the time period of 9/1/23-10/23/23.
  • Time Requirements: The member is expected to serve 1,700 hours, which averages 35-40 hours/week during the service term period.
  • Members will receive a gross living allowance while serving, which is paid on the 15th and last day of each month. The gross living allowance amount will be $958.33 per pay period (the amount listed is before tax deductions). Please note, there will not be an additional hourly wage or salary.
  • Segal Education Award upon successful completion of hourly requirement described in Time Requirements: The Education Award amount for this position is $6,895.00. Please note, this education award is an electronic transfer to either your educational institution, federal loan provider, etc. Members will not receive the education award via direct payment (such as check, cash, etc.).
  • Member positions that average 35-40 hours/week are eligible for health insurance and childcare reimbursement (income eligibility required for childcare reimbursement benefit)
  • Forbearance on qualified student loans while serving and interest accrual payments.
  • Ability to utilize VPI’s membership benefits with the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce, Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Envision Greater Fond du Lac for networking and continuing education opportunities.
  • Staff social activities
  • Participation in Community Inclusion and ORC Outings (i.e., baseball games, nature preserves, local eateries, cultural events)
  • Ability to utilize VPI’s YMCA membership
