Facilities Maintenance Technician


The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general maintenance of all VPI locations including painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and ground/landscaping.  They must be able to take direction, be organized, work independently, effectively communicate at all levels of the organization, complete necessary documentation, and take on all tasks with a friendly “can do” attitude; someone who is self-motivated and willing to step in and help wherever necessary.


  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year maintenance experience in building maintenance and production environment is preferred
  • Demonstrated common sense, judgement and communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Maintenance knowledge is imperative along with the capability to assess health and safety requirements


  • Perform all aspects of property maintenance, including preventative, corrective, deferred and emergency maintenance
    • This includes, but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, grounds/landscaping, basic snow removal, applying ice melt/salt
    • Performing routine maintenance around the building such as fixing structural damage, for example window, door or wall repair
  • Maintain all maintenance shops and storage rooms in an orderly fashion and in compliance with safety regulations; maintain accurate inventory control of tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Performs maintenance inspections and repairs on vacant units to ensure proper operating conditions and appearance upon move-in
  • Assists the maintenance team on special maintenance projects – i.e. preventative maintenance of building components and/or mechanicals
    • Assists with maintaining or repairing of equipment as necessary to maximize safety and production time
    • Assists in setting up jobs and new equipment as directed
  • Recommends measures to improve methods of operations, performance, safety and quality of service
    • Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries
  • Serve as on-call maintenance providing evening, weekends and holiday emergency service
  • Keeping documents of inspections and problems
  • Training janitor staff, if applicable.


Work performed is generally within the medium range as defined by the United States Department of Labor.

Base pay $15.00 $20.00/hour

Full time with benefits offered.
